Torque & Cleans in River Oaks
Loose connections in your electrical panel make heat, and heat slowly damages breakers, bus bars and wire. We open the panel, clean it out and bring every terminal to the manufacturer's torque spec. You get a clear look at what's inside and a tighter, cooler-running panel.

What a Torque and Clean Does for Your Panel
Every wire in your panel is held by a screw or lug that was tightened to a specific number when it was installed. Over the years, connections loosen. Copper and aluminum expand when current flows and contract when it stops, and that small movement adds up. Aluminum also creeps under pressure, so a lug that was snug at install can relax over time.
A torque and clean resets those connections. We use a calibrated torque screwdriver and wrench instead of going by feel, because overtightening can crush a conductor or crack a breaker terminal just as surely as a loose screw can overheat. Long, hot summers with the air conditioner cycling all day put steady load on the main and AC circuits, which is where we often find the most movement.
This is maintenance, not a repair call. It's a good fit if your panel has never been opened since you moved in, if you have aluminum wiring anywhere in the system, or if you'd like a baseline before adding a big load like an EV charger.
What's Included in the Visit
- Torque to the maker's spec
- We check the label inside your panel door and each breaker's rating, then set every main lug, neutral, ground and breaker terminal to the listed value with calibrated tools.
- Dust and debris removal
- Dust, insulation fibers and the occasional insect nest collect inside a panel and can hold moisture. We vacuum and brush them out without spraying liquids on live parts.
- Copper and aluminum terminal check
- Copper is forgiving and holds its tightness well. Aluminum needs the right lug rating and antioxidant compound where the manufacturer calls for it, and we add or renew it on aluminum terminations we work on.
- Heat and corrosion inspection
- We look for darkened insulation, discolored bus bar stabs, pitting and melted plastic. Those marks tell us which connections have been running hot.
- Written findings with photos
- You get notes and pictures of anything we found, so you can see the condition of your panel yourself and decide on any next steps without pressure.
Signs Your Panel Is Due for a Torque and Clean
A breaker feels warm
A breaker that's warm to the touch, especially on the AC or dryer circuit, often points to a loose terminal under it.
Lights dim when big loads start
Flickering or dimming when the compressor kicks on can come from a loose main or neutral connection. It's worth checking before it gets worse.
Buzzing or a faint burning smell
Any sound or smell from the panel means a connection is arcing or overheating. Switch off what you safely can and book a visit.
Aluminum wiring in the house
Aluminum service conductors or branch circuits need periodic attention because the metal relaxes under pressure over time.
No one has opened it in years
If you can't remember the last time an electrician looked inside your panel, a baseline check is simply good sense.
What Affects the Price
A torque and clean is a defined job, but panels vary a lot. We look at a few things before giving you a price by phone, and anything beyond routine maintenance is quoted separately so there are no surprises.
Number and size of panels
A single main panel takes less time than a main plus a subpanel in a garage or shop. More breakers means more terminals to torque.
Conductor material
Aluminum terminations take extra steps, like cleaning and applying antioxidant compound, compared with all-copper panels.
Location and access
An outdoor meter-main combination or a panel behind shelving or in a tight closet can add time.
What we find inside
Damaged breakers, burned bus stabs or undersized lugs are repairs, not maintenance. We show you what we found and price it before doing anything.
How the Visit Goes
- 1
We talk through your panel
When you call, we ask about the panel's age and brand, whether you know of any aluminum wiring, and anything odd you've noticed. That helps us bring the right tools and lugs.
- 2
Planned power shutoff
Most of the work is done with the power off, so we agree on timing with you first. We tell you how long things will be down and help you plan around the fridge and any medical or work equipment.
- 3
Clean, inspect, torque
We remove the cover, clean the enclosure, inspect each connection and torque everything to spec. Where a service-side connection needs the utility involved, we explain that and coordinate it as required.
- 4
Power up and walk through
We restore power, confirm circuits are working and show you the photos and notes. If we found something that needs a repair, you get a clear explanation and the price before any extra work starts.

Common Torque & Clean Questions
How often does a panel need a torque and clean?
Every few years suits most homes, and more often if you have aluminum wiring or a panel carrying heavy summer loads. If the first visit turns up a lot of loose connections, we'll recommend a shorter gap. If it was all tight, we'll say that as well.
Could I tighten the screws on my own?
We advise against it. The main lugs remain live even when the main breaker is off, and tightening by hand feel usually goes too far, which can harm aluminum conductors or crack breaker terminals. Getting the right torque value takes calibrated tools.
Who will do the work?
Licensed and insured electricians from our team, working under a Master Electrical License. We tell you who's coming ahead of the visit.
Does a warranty cover the work?
Yes, it carries a 1-year workmanship warranty. If any connection we torqued causes trouble during that year, call and we'll return to check it.
What happens if you find something more serious?
We pause, show you what we found and explain the choices. It may be one breaker replaced under Electrical Repair. In other cases an older panel is better swapped out, and we'll discuss Panel Upgrades plainly so the decision is yours.
Give Your Panel a Proper Checkup
A tight, clean panel runs cooler and gives you a clear picture of its condition. Tell us about your panel and we'll set a time that works around your day.
